The Caledonian Forest June 2010

Exhibition Design
The Caledonian Forest exhibition aims to highlight the various factors contributing to the rapid decline of animals, plants and trees within the once dense Caledonian Forest. Both parts of the exhibition are the Caledonian Forest - the dense half is how it once was and the other is how it is now.
The exhibitions consists of two undefined spaces containing 101 vertical timber elements, or "trees". My aim was to create a diagrammatic installation about the forest.
100 of these "trees" are as you enter the exhibition space. They are placed so the visitor or viewer can enter the space through the "Caledonian Forest". During walking through the 100 "trees" placed together, the viewer will be able to catch glimpses of 1 singular "tree", or what is now the Caledonian Forest.
On each of the "trees" is an inscription, fact, or statistic about the Caledonian Forest. I envisage the text to be carved into the timber trees to raise awareness about conditions of the natural woodlands.

The Caledonian Forest in it's original totality of 100% was 1.5 million hectares of woodlands. Today, the Caledonian Forest has been reduced to 1%.
